Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union for the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence project NEXTEUK awarded to the Center for European Research and coordinated by Dr Sarah Wolff (QMUL, Principal Investigator). The position is based at the Mile End campus of QMUL.

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time (0.4 FTE, 2 days a week) Post-Doctoral Research Assistant to work on the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union co-funded project Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, ‘The Future of the EU-UK Relationship NEXTEUK’ which aims to offer a structured space for academic and policy reflection on the future of the EU-UK relationship. NEXTEUK will organise teaching, research, policy and outreach activities, which will create new avenues for enhanced academic and policy cooperation between the EU and the UK and engender a better understanding of each other's mutual interests and common future in a rapidly evolving global order.
The objective is to raise awareness about the relevant of the future of the EU-UK relationship based on forward-looking and frontier-edge research. More specifically, the project will assess the historical achievements of the EU-UK relationship so far and what are the areas of mutual interest. It will analyse the roots of Brexit and its implications for European integration and British politics while offering forward-looking analysis on the future EU-UK relationship and formulate policy-relevant recommendations.
This project is led by Dr. at Queen Mary University of London.
An interest in EU-UK relations, European Union studies, including European integration, EU institutions and governance as well as an expertise in British politics is a must for this position. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, scientific excellence, critical and creative thinking, policy oriented work but also be able to work across sub-fields and disciplines and to be an excellent team-player. Prior experience working and/or researching a field in relation with civil society, think tanks and policy makers related to EU-UK relations, EU and/ or UK would be an asset. Experience in teaching and active participation in international research such as organising workshop, academic conferences is also desirable as well as social media and public communication skills.
The successful candidate will work closely with the project investigator and the rest of the NEXTEUK core staff team in the co-creation and co-production of policy briefs, working papers, events and outreach activities such amongst other a PhD summer school, policy roundtables and a lecture series. The candidate will assist in the preparation of scientific publications, in gathering research data and will be encouraged to publish in collective scientific publications, thus with an opportunity to enhance his/her own independent research profile, publications and presentations. The candidate will also be involved in the dissemination of the activities and of the outreach to the wider public and beneficiaries of the project, and use various mode of communication. There may be opportunities for international travel, and there will be opportunities for the candidate to refine their qualitative research skills.
There may be the possibility to offer additional teaching hours and to complement this contract with a 0.3 FTE additional contract, to be discussed during the interview.
This is a fixed term appointment until 31 October 2022.
Salary will be £31,613 per annum pro rata (Grade 4) inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days pro rata annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and an interest-free season ticket loan.
